A Living Nightmare: Someone Has Bought The 'Amityville Horror' House!

There are some spooky ol' houses out there in Hollywoodland, however, none more so than the Amityville Horror house.

If you thought creaky floorboards or Granny's mothballs were the scariest thing lurking in your house, you may want to think again. From the #AmericanHorrorStory Murder House to House on Haunted Hill, there are some spooky ol' houses out there in Hollywoodland, however, none more so than the Amityville Horror house.

Shooting to fame thanks to 1979's Amityville Horror film, what makes this story scarier is that this isn't one of those Texas Chainsaw "based on a true story" deals. 112 Ocean Avenue is a bonafide murder site that inspired the first Amityville film and the various sequels/reboots.

In 1974 the house became the last resting place of six members of the DeFeo family when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four younger siblings as they slept. Since then the house has changed hands several times, most recently in 2010. Ocean Avenue has been on the market since June, but has finally shifted — if multiple murders didn't put you off, damp was also listed in the problems prior to sale.

The Ocean Avenue home was on the market for $850,000, but now it appears that it has been snapped up just in time for Christmas. Jerry O’Neill of Coldwell Banker Harbor Light said, "We don’t discuss the terms of a sale until it’s closed.”

Apart from the blood-curdling memories of what happened here, what else do you get for your buck? The 1927 Dutch Colonial has 5 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms over 5,000 square-ft., so there is more than enough room to hold a murder spree. Thankfully, a state-of-the-art security system has been installed, and although it has been restored and updated (presumably they wiped up the blood), the house retains its period features including its own boat slipway.

If watching Horror Story's Roanoke inspired you to buy your own haunted fixer-upper, you will have to look elsewhere than Amityville. A whole new family has taken on the legend, and hopefully they will have many happy years within its tragic walls.
