DIY or Cheap Costumes

These are ideas that are originally not mine!

It is that time of year again; bring the hype for Halloween. So, here is a list of things you can do on your own and they are cheap. Last time I was in Value Village they had an incredible costume for forty dollars... now that is not exactly cheap, but it is not the most expensive thing either. Let's start with something easy.

1. The Robber

Do you have a striped shirt? Do you have black pants and cute boots? There you go! You have a costume! All you need is a mask or a black toque/hat. For a mask all you need is black fabric and cut out some eye holes and there you go.

2. The Gypsy

To the thrift store!
  • Buy a long skirt
  • Buy a bandanna or you can use a buff
  • Buy gold jewelry that jingles or use your own.
  • Buy a top that is flowy and fun

There! You're a gypsy.

Gypsy/ Fortune Teller: Super Easy!

3. Gumball Machine

Bright pants, white shirt, pompoms. Glue the pompoms onto the white shirt and make sure that they are glued close together. Fabric glue would be your best bet.

4. Unicorn

Wear all white. This can be fun because you dye your hair fun colors such as pink, blue, green, purple and yellow. Then all you need to buy is the unicorn headband that you can probably find in Claire's.

Make-up can be optional. Unicorn

5. The TY

Remember when you were growing up and TY's were the thing? Well, now you can be one. All you need is red construction paper and a onesie in form of an animal. Then, cut out the construction paper in a heart shape and use white out or white paper and create the TY sign.

6. Ice Cream

Have an extra wedding dress? Well, easy! be vanilla ice cream, create a little cone hat from paper and you can attach it using hot glue and a head band. Then, there you go!

7. Starbucks

That's right! Go as your favorite drink. Buy a beige dress or coffee colored, and buy a white boa. Roll up a green construction paper into a tube a voila! you're a Starbucks drink!

8. Mary Poppins

White blouse, black skirt with tights, black fancy hat, and of course a black umbrella with a large purse.

9. A High Five

This is for you people who are feeling particularly lazy. You take a piece of paper and attach a ruler to it and you write a five, and when people ask you what you are, you raise it in the air and voila!

10. A Bedside Lamp

This one requires a little more creativity. Buy black pantyhose/leggings, a skirt that has frills or add the frills on, or you can make a skirt from construction paper. I'm sure Pinterest has the make-how and you can stand on a table if anyone asks.

11. A Cat

Super easy, almost everyone has probably done this costume.

12. A Mouse

13. A Sim

Green construction paper, wire and a headband. Combine the three and then you can wear whatever clothes you want!

14. Anyone from 'Riverdale'

It is easy to pull off and if you are wanting to spend a little more money there is also Hot Topic that basically sells their clothes.

15. Crocodile with Crocodile Hunter

For the crocodile, you could probably find some onesie that looks like one. Hunter: khakis that are beige with a shirt too.

16. Wind-up Doll

Make a key using some spray paint and cardboard. Wear make-up that makes you look doll-like and there you go! Nice 'n' easy!

17. Cowboy!

18. Identity Thief

Any shirt will do, then go to the dollar store or office depot and buy name tags and write down first and last names of people and then stick them all over your shirt, and if you want, even pants!

18. Jellyfish!

This one is an awesome idea. Buy a clear plastic umbrella. Buy some lights (that run on battery) and weave the lights in and out of the umbrella. Attach streamers to the end of the umbrella and if you want add some silly looking eyes on it and then done!

Wow! Thanks, Pinterest.

19. Teabag

Use an old pillow case, some string, and a piece of paper. Cut the pillow case so you can wear it and then you can fill it with leaves (but make it so they don't fall out). Then what you can do is copy the Lipton or Red Rose tag and now you are a tea bag.

20. Life

You know how the saying goes: "If life gives you lemons make lemonade?" Well, wear a shirt and with a Sharpie write 'life' on it and then buy some lemons at the grocery store and hand them out (or hold onto them).
