"The variable goes over here, while these two..." My math teacher droned on in a deep monotone voice. I was hardly paying attention anyway, staring out the classroom window. I couldn't get the shadowy figure I saw the day before out of my head. The school bell rang, snapping me out of my own thoughts. Gathering my things, I jotted down the homework assignment onto my hand and quickly left the classroom. I headed towards my next class, hoping to not bump into Miss Fake Blonde and her minions. I gritted my teeth at just the thought of seeing those girls again.

Lost in my hatred, I ended up bumping into someone's arm with my shoulder. "Ah, jeez. Sorry about tha—." I turned my head to look at the person and the words stopped coming out of my mouth. Staring back at me was a boy, slightly taller than me. His crystal blue eyes stared right into mine, silvery hair framing his ghostly pale face. He wore the same uniform as I, but his was more clean cut. The boy had slightly high cheekbones and thin lips.

I stood there with my mouth slightly open. I couldn't move nor talk. It was as if the boy had taken control of my body. Suddenly, the boy turned his head and started to walk away. I watched him leave, a shiver going down my spine.

Glancing at a clock, I cursed under my breath and rushed towards my class. Did that boy purposely make me almost late for science? Luckily, I got to my class seconds before the bell rang. I sat down in my desk, relieved. "I can't believe I was almost late..." I grumbled to myself. "That guy had some nerve..."

"YOU THREE! OUT IN THE HALL! NOW!" my science teacher bellowed at the three students who walked into the class after the bell rang. They ran out like scared animals and got quite a tongue lashing from the teacher. The sounds of snickers and giggles moved throughout the room. I just slightly rolled my eyes before pulling out a sketchbook from my backpack. My science teacher didn't seem like he wanted to start class anytime soon.

"E-Excuse me. May I sit here?"

I looked up from my book to see a girl with curly brown hair standing timidly before me. "Of course. I don't mind," I told her, lightly patting the bench's empty space next to me. The girl smiled widely, sitting down. "Th-Thank you."

"No problem."

I slightly glanced over at the girl, who was scribbling something down into a small notebook. I noticed her eyes were a sea green color and her skin was a light tan. There were multiple bandages on her fingers and ink on her hands. "Um, if you don't mind me asking, what's your name?" I asked in a cautious tone, not sure how the girl would react.

"Oh! It's Kayle." The girl answered, turning her head. "What's yours?"

"Anaiya." I answered back.

"So you're the girl my mom met yesterday," Kayle said, widely smiling again. I laughed slightly. "Yeah, I got off on the wrong stop and found my way there. Your mom's very nice."

"She's like that with most people," Kayle commented, closing the little notebook she had. "There are only a few people who she loathes entirely."

I chuckled a bit. "My mom's the same way." Kayle laughed.

The bell rang, signaling that free time was over. Kayle and I stood and started making our way to the door. We got along well, chatting about things like interests and favorite classes.

I made my way towards my locker, Kayle still with me. Opening the small door, I took out some things, placing them on the shelves. "You know we really don't have to use these," Kayle said to me. "I hardly ever use mine."

"Yeah, I know, but what's the harm?" I commented, placing one last thing in my locker.

Just as I was about to close my locker door, it was slammed shut before my eyes. "Shouldn't you be in the bathroom crying your eyes out, newbie?" A voice hissed. I rolled my eyes before facing the voice's owner.

"Shouldn't you be bothering someone else other than me?" I asked, my voice cold.

Miss Fake Blonde pressed her lips together tightly, her posse standing right behind her. "How dare you talk to me like that!!"

"C'mon, Carmin. Stop this." Kayle sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.

"Oh, so Miss Fake Blonde has a name?" I gasped in fake surprise. "What a coincidence! I have a name too!"

"Anaiya..." Kayle whispered to me, eyeing Carmin in caution.

Carmin sneered in anger. Getting up close to my face, she hissed, "The name's Carmin, newbie. You'd better remember it."

"Excuse me, sweetheart, but the name's Anaiya, NOT newbie. You'd better remember it." I hissed back, saying the last sentence in a mocking tone.

Carmin huffed in anger, turning around and stomping away. Her posse quickly followed her, shooting hateful glares my way. "Wow. I've never seen someone stand up to Carmin before," Kayle said, staring at me.

"Yeah, well, I've had my share of being bullied by snooty girls and not standing up for myself," I told Kayle, walking away from my locker and towards my next class.

The rest of the school day went by quickly, for Kayle was in all of my classes. I never noticed nor did I really pay attention during role call. It made me happy since I knew no one else. When school ended and I was walking towards my bus, I noticed Carmin talking to the mysterious boy I had bumped into earlier in the morning. I frowned, still making my way towards my bus. The weird thing was that it felt like I was being stared at. I shivered, getting on my bus. Hopefully, I didn't miss my stop this time.
