Why I’m Really Excited for ‘Halloween’ (2018)

“Happy Halloween, Michael.”

Is anyone else loving this mask or is it just me?

Ever since I can remember, I was introduced to the horror genre by John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) when I was much younger. Since then, my love for horror grew and coming from someone who loves the Halloween franchise—watching it every year around October—or just in general, hearing there was going to be a brand spankin’ new Halloween film coming out October 19th, 2018, words couldn’t express how ecstatic I was to see Jamie Lee Curtis make the announcement on her Twitter back in 2017.

To also hear they’re ignoring all the sequels coming after John Carpenter’s Halloween and this new Halloween film being a follow-up to Halloween 1, I was even more excited to see where exactly director and one of the writers of the script, David Gordon Green, takes us next 40 years later after the events of Halloween 1. Then fast-forward to June of 2018. Unfortunately I didn’t go to CinemaCon back in April earlier this year so I didn’t get the opportunity to see the trailer but luckily I did when it was released online June 2018. Man, the trailer itself was glorious and highlighted how incredible the mask looked. How the cinematography was etc. From then on out I was hyped and ready for October.

Then the second trailer was released in September. That second trailer alone was amazing and very well-edited. The stunning tracking shot with Michael Myers alone had me flashing back to the filmmaking aspect of Halloween I & II. The way The Shape moves and the look altogether looked perfect. With this new Halloween film taking place 40 years later after Halloween 1, it doesn’t look like it’ll disappoint.

Overall, when I saw these two trailers, it legit felt like a John Carpenter film. There’s so many shots and sequences from the trailers that seemed like John Carpenter himself got behind the camera to direct a few scenes from the way the cinematography and the lighting looked. I know that David Gordon Green mentioned that he loves Halloween and how him and the other two co-writers basically used Halloween 1 as a bible for this new Halloween film which shows from the previews.

If you weren’t excited before, wait till you hear this—John Carpenter not only is back serving as an executive producer—but he’s also back to compose the score for Halloween (2018). From the glimpse of what we heard from the Halloween OST for 2018, it sounds fucking amazing. To see Jamie Lee Curtis make a surprise return as Laurie Strode along with Nick Castle who played The Shape in Halloween 1 is incredible. Even though Castle will be sharing the role for The Shape/Michael Myers with James Jude Courtney, I’m really looking forward to seeing what these two bring to the screen sharing the role as Michael Myers.

Well, guys. I know this was short but I wanted to share my quick thoughts on it. Im ready for Friday to get here to witness Halloween in theaters.

Let me know your thoughts on Halloween (2018). Will you be seeing it?
