You're 'Dead' Right: 'The Walking Dead' Creator Reveals His Crossover Plans With 'Fear The Walking Dead'

With AMC's Fear the Walking Dead currently on its midseason hiatus and The Walking Dead off air until October 23, the TV landscape is pretty zombie free. However, with their returns just around the corner, our appetite for rotting flesh shows no signs of going away.

As two of the most popular shows on cable television, fans of #RobertKirman's apocalyptic universe are constantly asking if the two entities could cross over. We have been told time and time again that the very different narratives of #TheWalkingDead and #FeartheWalkingDead will never meet, but that hasn't stopped Kirkman at least playing with the idea in his head.

Keep on walking.

Speaking to a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Comicbook.com reports that The Walking Dead creator revealed how he would unite the lives of our Atlanta survivors and their LA counterparts:

"If Oklahoma ever went up in a nuclear cloud, you'd see it on 'The Walking Dead' and on 'Fear the Walking Dead,' you'd see it...I don't know the exact timeline."

While some fans (and even actors) say a crossover would be impossible, Kirkman ominously teased that this is only "for now" and explained how it could work:

"'Fear the Walking Dead' takes place roughly around the time of Season 1 and beginning of Season 2 in 'The Walking Dead.' Walking Dead Season 8 is taking place with the theoretical 'Fear the Walking Dead' Season 7. We gotta get there."

As the little sister to the main show, Fear has always struggled to live up to the hype of its predecessor and is usually resigned to the shadows. That being said, with a boost in ratings in Season 3, Fear the Walking Dead is slowly gathering a cult of loyal followers. There were recent rumors that Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes from TWD could be related to Madison Clark on FTWD, but Fear's showrunner Dave Erickson was quick to shoot that one with a Daryl Dixon crossbow:

"I've heard that theory, and I actually think I teased it in my first Talking Dead appearance, which was this notion that I found it interesting. You can hear her accent. I mean, Kim [Dickens is] from Alabama. And you can hear her accent come through every so often. And the character, as we come to learn, is also from Alabama. So I can only speak for myself and say she's not related to Rick or anybody else on the other show. And the fact that she's from the south is really just a coincidence."

It is an established fact that although the two shows both come from Kirkman and AMC, they are almost completely different. With one-eyed villains, katana-wielding heroines, and tiger pets, The Walking Dead is a real-life comic book brought to life, while Fear remains a largely more grounded affair.

The question of a show crossover has been hanging in the air since Fear premiered in 2015. We already know that The Walking Dead shares a universe with Breaking Bad, while a partnership for Fear with The Walking Dead could mean a huge ratings boost. Even if Kirkman currently has no plans to make it happen, at least the proposal is in place if the situation ever arises. A pre-Woodbury Governor, the arrival of the Whisperers, or Strand vs. Rick? Now that is a show we could all get on board with.
